Uh-Oh...

Overlook a Baby Fig Tree at your peril...



It doesn't look like much at the moment, but these amazing plants turn into massive trees - they grow so fast, that you can almost see them growing. Before the owners of this factory know it, half the side of their building will be in pieces. They're not called strangler figs or rock splitters for nothing! If you have one of these in any space smaller than an acre of open ground - be warned. You can see these silent vandals in action here.

Ficus in general I find are a menace. Even in a pot they tend to break out into the ground!

Ross - thanks for the advice. We have quite a few ficus here in So. California that are equally menacing. My favorite is when folks take a charming little Ficus benjamina from their office and put it in their yard. They seem to cute and inoffensive, then end up reaching through the bedroom window and wandering off with little children and pets. ;-)
