Recycling Your Bulbs

No free give-away of plant bulbs here I'm afraid...but if you're looking for a safe and convenient place to get rid of batteries and light-bulbs, this is the place...
I've been looking for a place to get rid of fluorescent tubes and batteries for a while now - it's amazing how hard it is to do things in an environmentally responsible way in South Africa!

Waste Recycling Unit outside Builders Trade Depot
So I was pleasantly surprised to see this little waste disposal unit for recycling outside the Builders Trade Depot off Umgeni Road in Durban.
If you know of any other places to recycle the rubbish that shouldn't be dumped in a municipal dump, feel free to leave a comment.

edit: Check out this post on The Art of Engineering about the problem of eWaste in SA.

There is a similar bin at the Pick 'n Pay in Tzaneen where I now leave my bulbs and bats. I don't know if many PnPs support this... worth checking out, South Africans!

All of the Makro's are supposed to have eWaste recycling bins. PnP stores are supposed to have a battery recycling facility but I haven't seen any of those for a while.

I haven't seen them in Durban, but will keep a look out for them at both PnP and Makro. Its good to see some of the bigger retailers taking some initiative. BTW - I just read your great post on eWaste...just amended mine to include a link to it.

The Bellaire Road DSW site is another place to take electronic equipment like old computers etc. for correct disposal.
